Kaduja is a product designed for dough rising, baking, and storage, with the aim of rekindling the tradition of homemade bread. By addressing the pervasive issue of bread waste – responsible for 44% of Europe’s food waste – Kaduja offers a sustainable solution that emphasises responsible consumption while preserving culinary heritage.
It consists of two 3D-printed ceramic vessels that guide users through all three stages of bread making, making the process accessible even to inexperienced bakers. For dough rising, the vessel that functions as a lid is combined with a cotton kitchen cloth. While the dough rises, the second vessel, serving as the base, is preheated in the oven. Once ready, the dough is transferred to the preheated base and covered with the lid, which is filled with water. The steam released during baking creates a loaf that is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. After baking, the bread can be stored directly in the vessels.
Thanks to 3D clay printing technology, each loaf baked in Kaduja bears a distinctive layered pattern, characteristic of the process. Since bread making requires breathable materials, natural clay was chosen. The vessels remain unglazed, allowing the clay’s natural ability to regulate moisture to enhance the baking and storage experience. Furthermore, the technology encourages small-batch production, ensuring just the right number of pieces are made as needed—discouraging mass production and supporting sustainable practices.
