Faculty of Architecture, University of Montenegro
Irena Rajković is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Montenegro, working within the field of architectural technologies, with a particular focus on bioclimatic and energy-efficient architecture. Her academic, research and professional work is centered on sustainable design principles, the integration of environmental strategies in architecture, and the reinterpretation of vernacular and traditional building knowledge in contemporary practice.
Born in Warsaw, Poland and educated in Podgorica, Montenegro, she has developed a cross-cultural perspective that informs both her teaching and research. She has further enriched her academic experience through international research engagements, including a scholarship-supported stay at Nottingham Trent University, where she focused on the application of solar energy and active systems in the design of energy-efficient building envelopes.
Her research interests are strongly oriented towards the relationship between climate-responsive design, heritage, and sustainability. She has been actively involved in numerous international and regional research projects addressing energy efficiency, building retrofitting, and the revitalization of architectural heritage, contributing both as a researcher and project leader. Her work also includes participation in scientific and professional conferences, as well as the organization and mentorship of student workshops and exhibitions, where she supports the development of young architects an encourages critical and context-sensitive approaches to design.
In addition to her academic role, she has professional experience in architectural practice, having worked on urban planning and architectural projects early in her career. This combination of practical and theoretical knowledge enables her to approach architecture as an integrated discipline that bridges design, technology and environmental responsibility.
She is actively engaged in international academic exchange through programs such as Erasmus+, having participated in teaching and research mobility initiatives across Europe. Her involvement in collaborative and interdisciplinary environments further strengthens her commitment to knowledge exchange and innovation in architectural education.
Irena Rajković is a member of the Green Building Council (Technical and Education Committee) and the Association of Architects of Montenegro. Through her work, she is dedicated to advancing sustainable architectural practices and supporting emerging talents in the field.
