Lamott.Lamott Architects are transforming the Gießen-Ost Comprehensive School into a forward-looking learning environment. A fragmented, dark existing complex is being transformed into a clearly structured, recognizable school campus, featuring six classroom buildings, green courtyards, and an inviting ground floor serving as a public space.
The conceptual idea behind the entire project – a “School without Doors” – is first implemented in the first construction phase, a classroom building for grades 5 and 6: open learning clusters where classrooms, learning landscapes, and team zones flow seamlessly into one another. Minimizing fixed boundaries strengthens community, visibility, and flexibility, while a finely balanced acoustic and lighting concept enables focused learning. Cradle-to-Cradle principles, the reuse of the structural framework, and a new, highly insulated brick façade make the renovation a sustainable model project from an energy perspective as well.
