The former locksmith manufactory of the Apollo refinery, the later ZSE/E.ON (Slovak electricity and gassupplier) assembly hall, had been given a new chance to survive in 2005 when the original industrial atmosphere was revived by three architects Martin Paško, Zoran Michalčák and Zuzana Zacharová. The goal of the conversion was to create a new creative basis for the support and development of timeless design and architecture. There storation respected the basic material and disposition of the original building. It has received several awards for its architectural value.

The cultural space Design factory had been offering its atmosphere to commercial and non-commercial events for 15 years. It was included in the cultural map of the capital mainly as the first gallery of architecture and thr first creative center. The Design factory is not only an example of the first successful conversion in the city of an unprotected industrial object, but it is also the first event space to be created on the city grounds with out state support. According to the Center forScientific and Technical Information, since 2014, Design factory has been one of the renowned institutions in the field of curation.
