City park Rakova Jelša

If the objective of Rakova Jelša town park I was to host leisure activities and picnic places, second phase focuses on self-sufficient farming and cultivation.
Possibility of legal and arranged cultivation on the outskirts of the city centre means a new interpretation of the traditional use of barje. New gardening areas need infrastructure, that sources from existing elements in the space (the cast plates of the demolished sheds etc.). Instead of dispersed sheds, new common shelters, that collect rainwater and serve as shade are introduced. Urban elements, wooden and reused assembled prefabricates benches, bike stands and fences, used in phase one are multiplied in phase two.

A new walking path, following Ljubljanica from Špica, past the highway pass to the brink of Rakova Jelša town park I is introduced. Didactical interventions and informative panels enrich the learning path by the river. Under the highway overpass a boathouse with a bar takes the former unused space, furthermore, a pulley crosses Ljubljanica river in the endpoint of the park, done in phase one, that drives visitors from Ljubljana to Plečniks’ church of st. Michael on the moor in Črna vas.

Northern to the highway, by the new park and ride and the new Intervention station of the fire brigade by the Barjanska street, a new nature involving playground mimicking moor landscape is introduced. A corridor next to Barjanska street, now full of advertisement posters is to be cleaned of all the clutter; info points about Ljubljansko barje natural reserve are placed into the newly cut space, that will also act as the only public space and playground for the residents of Rakova Jelša. Informational pavilion serves a variety of functions, from barje farmers market to open air cinema…
