Flagship Project for Sustainable Architecture: The New Campus at the Hospital of Barmherzige Schwestern Ried
In spring 2023, a significant milestone was reached with the opening of a special project commissioned by the Hospital of Barmherzige Schwestern (Sisters of Mercy) in Ried, Upper Austria. The new campus and the Vinzentinum school area now house a state-of-the-art nursing training facility, blending sustainable construction with a welcoming atmosphere and resource-efficient operation.
Designed by Delta Pods Architects, the architecture of the campus places an emphasis on wood, integrating it into every aspect of the design. The new campus, which accommodates around 220 students, became operational in September 2022. The building includes a technical college, a nursing school, modern office spaces for administration, and several workshops.
As part of the project, a new structure was added to the existing building. One of the key considerations in the planning process was the preservation of the patient garden, and the integration of the existing basement into the design. The architecture team managed the entire process from the initial feasibility study to the final handover, ensuring the project’s success.
