The Marktraum is the centerpiece of a transformation that converts a former parking lot into a climate-active, community-oriented urban landscape, carrying Vienna’s market culture into the future. Conceived as a year-round market, it provides space for twelve market stalls, a market bar, a central communal table, and a workshop kitchen, all designed to foster exchange and shared experience.

As a hybrid, lightweight structure, the Marktraum is elevated on slender steel columns above the Wienfluss vault. Its timber-and-steel frame ensures openness and flexibility, while the green-glazed larch façade and light-oiled oak interiors anchor the building in the site’s atmosphere. Large, openable façades and a central public passage connect the market to the surrounding neighborhood. A publicly accessible rooftop terrace creates a green, consumption-free meeting place overlooking the Wienzeile, Otto Wagner’s buildings, and the Naschpark. The Marktraum Naschmarkt represents an architecture that links city and everyday life, climate and culture, people and markets.
