Transformation and Atmosphere: How should one handle a building from 2006 that, while having a high quality and robust structure, is stylistically outdated and no longer meets today’s requirements for modern learning formats? In this project, we kept the existing structure, gave materials for repurposing into the reuse-circle, and introduced a new language of form and tactile quality. We implemented a circular “core” that houses two control rooms within the seminar area, and opened the former hall wall with a glass wall, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding greenery.
On the ground floor, the reception area was redesigned – a circular counter bridges the arrival zone and a repurposed multifunctional space for catering, workshops, and teamwork. It is separated from the foyer by a new floor-to-ceiling glass wall and offers a variety of seating and standing table zones. Furthermore, the newly designed color scheme and the built-in wooden furnishings, together with the surfaces and materials, create an inviting, harmonious, and timeless ambience, ushering the seminar building of the German Lawyers Institute (DAI) into a new era.
