New Construction of a Sports Hall with Four Hall Units by Junk & Reich Architekten

To support sports activities for the Pasteurstraße School Campus and neighboring schools, a sports hall comprising four hall units was built on Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Straße. The design integrates two double-court sports halls, stacked within a single, compact building volume. This efficient arrangement allowed a portion of the site to remain undeveloped and to be landscaped as a green, recreational area.

To harmonize with the scale of the surrounding residential buildings, the structure was lowered 3.5 meters into the ground. A glazed connecting zone facing the adjacent building accommodates a cascading staircase that links all levels of the sports hall and provides direct access to the school. A second stairwell includes an elevator, ensuring barrier-free accessibility throughout the building. Each double-court sports hall is equipped with its own storage rooms, changing areas, and sanitary facilities. The playing courts receive ample natural daylight through continuous, horizontal window bands. Along Bonhoeffer Street, the façade design clearly expresses the building’s function and public character.
