The ASPA KST Interbalkan Medical Center Oncology Building in Thessaloniki is a thoughtfully designed extension to the European Interbalkan Medical Center, conceived to elevate cancer care within a contemporary healthcare setting. Serving as a dedicated Oncology Center and housing doctors’ offices, the architecture reflects the building’s purpose with a fluid, elegant form that sensitively responds to the existing hospital geometry, mirroring and reversing its original curvature to create a harmonious addition to the campus.
Interior spaces prioritize comfort and wellbeing, departing from the cold, impersonal aesthetic often associated with medical facilities. Instead, interiors are warm, inviting, and hotel-like, enhanced by abundant natural light, thoughtful ventilation, and carefully considered color schemes that put patients and visitors at ease. Special attention was given to patient treatment areas to foster privacy and dignity, using design strategies that soften the clinical experience and support emotional comfort.
The project, recognized for excellence in healthcare architecture, exemplifies a contemporary and human-centered approach that seamlessly integrates form and function while advancing the healing environment of the Interbalkan Medical Center.
