Tirana Backpacker Hostel is Albania’s first hostel that opened in 2005. It started in another location but now it is located in a beautiful Italian style villa that is almost a hundred years old. Part of the project was also to keep buildings like these alive since they are slowly disappearing from the city, adding value to abandoned sites in good locations. It is situated in the heart of colourful Tirana, close to Skenderbej Square. There is a lot of room for relaxing, a huge backyard with lots of mandarin and orange trees, hammocks, sofas and instruments around. It also offers special day tours and experiences to promote everything that the area has to offer. The hostel is a family run hostel; an Albanian-Dutch mixture. It is a place of experimentation for new ideas, art and intercultural communication.
