R2 House: A Contemporary Reflection of Local Heritage
R2 House is located in the historic Reşadiye District of Datça, Muğla – an area designated as a Special Environmental Protection Zone. Due to this status, the region is subject to strict regulations concerning façade materials, building heights, and window-to-wall ratios.
The project’s goal was to design a structure that respectfully echoes the region’s architectural archetypes while forming a harmonious connection with the surrounding topography. The design reinterprets the local architectural language through a contemporary lens, aiming to create a strong visual identity that resonates within architectural memory.
The composition of volumes in varying sizes draws inspiration from the traditional forms found in the area’s historical fabric. This interplay of massing becomes a modern homage to the additive character of local architecture, blending tradition and innovation into a coherent whole.
