It’s getting hot – even in Vienna. While ceiling fans naturally help to cool rooms, in cities like Athens, air conditioning systems dominate in Austria, releasing heat to the outside and heating up the city even more. Studies show that Vienna is, on average, one degree warmer in summer because of air conditioning.
“Not Only Fans” responds to this imbalance with a hybrid object: a ceiling light that is also a fan. The fan is concealed in the central cylinder, the air is drawn in from above, and diffusely emitted into the room through a conical shade. The lower cone serves as a light source – air and light flow together.
The result is a silent intervention against the heat: not a technical device, but an integrative living object that combines design and function — and gives the ceiling fan a new, contemporary role in everyday life.
