The first “Junge Wohnen” (young living) project in Melk is designed to meet the needs of young people with compact and flexible apartments, ecological materials, energy efficiency, and low costs. On the southern bypass of Melk, an east-west orientation of the building with a setback on the western side of the property was chosen, in view of the volume of traffic.
Two four-story structures are separated from each other by a transparent staircase and different façades, with the north wing additionally elevated above the parking lots. All 36 apartments, each with 56 m² of living space, have a balcony or terrace with a garden. Wood in the interior and exterior creates a pleasant indoor climate and enables rapid construction thanks to prefabricated elements. Heating is provided by district heating and underfloor heating, all apartments have controlled ventilation with heat recovery.
