Above Schwarzenberg, at the edge of the Vorsäß zone, the former alpine outpost “Holzhalden” once stood, later replaced by the guesthouse “Vier Lärchen”. Today, a house for a young family occupies this hillside site. The design draws on a familiar Alpine typology: a solid base embedded in the slope and a timber structure placed above. This clear composition follows the spatial program and anchors the building naturally within the landscape.
Set into the hillside, the house appears restrained from the outside, while unfolding generous spaces within. Wooden surfaces define the atmosphere, while large openings frame views across the Bregenzerwald. A central element is the Geserofen, serving as a tiled stove in the living room and as a heated wall in the kitchen with original Geser tiles. Heating and cooling are provided by a ground-source heat pump and underfloor heating. A contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Vorsäß.
