The 19th-century building in central Cluj, now home to the National Museum of Transylvanian History, was originally the private residence of a theater enthusiast. Its transformation into a dynamic cultural space continues with the 2025 exhibition, “Forgotten Warriors and Eternal Adornments”, celebrating the return of the Șimleu Silvaniei treasure to Romania.
Once-dispersed artifacts are presented through a narrative design structured around migration, landscape, and archaeology. Natural materials – rammed earth, stone, and grain – and directed lighting shape an immersive atmosphere, while the linear path becomes both visual and emotional. Each room has a distinct identity, and two special areas – the “Discovery Room” and the circular projection hall – invite interaction and contemplation. At the center is a one-of-a-kind onyx fibula, displayed alongside gold jewelry, gemstones, and artificially deformed skulls, revealing the visual identity and refinement of migratory elites. The exhibition offers a new way to experience history – closer, more personal, and alive.
