Blur was engaged by a South Yarra resident to design an extension, responding to the area’s varied architecture and the owners’ highly tailored lifestyle. A new wing, clad in weathered copper, establishes a subtle yet distinct street presence through a restrained palette of natural materials, including copper, glass, steel, bluestone, and off-form concrete. An elevated, black mosaic lap pool anchors the project, with living spaces oriented around it.
Landscaping by Myles Baldwin dissolves boundaries between inside and out, framing views and extending the architecture into the garden. A series of curves soften the built form, shed water without gutters, and continue internally to create a cohesive spatial language. A glazed corridor connects old and new, drawing northern light into the original house and forming a liminal threshold between domestic ritual and retreat. A louvred western façade mediates privacy, light, and climate, while integrated automation enhances comfort and performance.
