Atelier Chociwski

Located in a historic, industrial building, a former carpentry constructed in 1912, the architectural office underwent a total renovation. The floor plan was organized in three zones. The open-plan office space, the meeting room and the auxiliary spaces, such as kitchen and restrooms. All the surfaces were stripped to their bones revealing the structure underneath. The old arched ceiling in concrete and steel became visible and was kept in its initial state. Its rough texture was set in contrast to the polished, terrazzo-like, white concrete floor and the smooth black and white furniture. The walls and cabinets were built in raw, black steel and grey plaster. The intimacy of the meeting room was underlined by its black-stained oak paneling and the long oak table. Fine-tuned details and materials such as American walnut, tiles in aqua blue and rose mallow and curtains in white linen soften the rough structural core and round up the exquisite material palette.
