With a new, all-day school building, the existing elementary school in St. Georgen an der Stiefing receives a high-quality extension, characterized by a spacious room concept, flexible outdoor areas, sustainable construction, and energy self-sufficiency. The single-story, all-day school blends seamlessly into the ensemble of the existing buildings, continuing its volumetric interplay by adopting existing sloping roofs as well as façade materials.
Inside, rooms are generously lit by floor-to-ceiling windows. Barrier-free open terraces in front of all rooms allow lessons to be moved outside. Seating steps and staircases lead from the terraces to the garden. The building is constructed in wood, façade and pitched roof insulation are made sustainably of wood fiber insulation boards. Wood and wood-based materials were also used for interior surfaces. Heating and cooling are provided by air heat pumps and underfloor heating, electricity is generated by PV modules on the pitched roofs.
