This semi-detached house was constructed above an existing garage for a young family with one child, in a small village near Stuttgart. The building is conceived as a compact timber structure, with wood used as the primary construction material. The façade is clad in pre-greyed European silver fir, allowing the building to blend naturally into its rural surroundings while aging gracefully over time. As the project builds upon an existing garage, the footprint at ground level is limited.
The ground floor therefore accommodates the kitchen and dining area, which extend directly onto a terrace and the small adjoining garden, creating a close connection between interior and exterior spaces. Due to the restricted ground area, the living room is located on the first floor. Here, a generous, double-height space visually and spatially connects it to the dining and kitchen areas below, enhancing the sense of openness within the compact structure. Two small children’s rooms are also arranged on this level. The upper floor is dedicated to the parents’ domain, comprising a master bedroom and a master bathroom. A roof terrace completes this level, offering elevated views of the surrounding landscape and providing an additional outdoor retreat.
