The listed Schlosshotel Wasserburg occupies a striking peninsula on Lake Constance, its origins dating back to an 8th-century moated castle. The present structure is largely defined by a 16th-century Renaissance form, characterized by solid walls, clear geometry, and its prominent lakeside setting. Recent renovations reorganized and expanded the ground floor to meet modern hotel needs while preserving the historic fabric.

A semicircular extension adjoins the building with quiet confidence, using a minimalist design language of clean lines, balanced proportions, and restrained materials. Rather than creating stark contrast, the addition establishes a dialogue between old and new. Details are precise and understated, with clearly defined transitions that maintain the visibility of the historic foundation. Inside, the design draws inspiration from the lakeside context, incorporating light materials and airy spatial qualities reminiscent of traditional bathhouses. The project demonstrates how sensitive, contemporary interventions can enhance listed buildings while respecting their heritage and identity.
