The five-star Hyatt Regency Hotel occupies a prominent waterfront site in the center of Zadar, directly on the Adriatic Sea and facing the historic old town. The project transforms and extends the former liqueur factory, carefully responding to the identity, scale, and material integrity of the historic structure. To avoid conflict with the proportions and massing of the historic façade, the extension is articulated as two interconnected volumes.
This calibrated fragmentation reduces the perceived scale of the addition while establishing a balanced relationship between old and new. The hotel is conceived as a classic tripartite, composed of three linked buildings whose individual architectural expressions remain legible while forming a cohesive ensemble through spatial and functional continuity. A glazed interior space, a contemporary interpretation of a palm house, mediates between landscape and architecture.
