Renovation of Stone House within the historic core of Cavtat represents a four-year journey, taking the project from vision to reality while harmonizing strict conservation guidelines with a client’s contemporary lifestyle. As both authors and lead contractors, the company ensured full restoration, and the main concept was to achieve a timeless space where modern interventions accentuate, rather than dominate, the building’s authentic historical soul. Design is based on a triad of materials: stone as the structural foundation, wooden interfloor and roof system, and steel as a modern contrast to the traditional materials.

Key heritage elements – original stone paving, monumental staircase, and timber ceiling – were carefully dismantled, restored, and reintegrated, as well as existing stone oil vessels and sinks that were repurposed as functional kitchen and bathroom elements, while the original water cistern was reactivated for household use. Despite its heritage elements, house integrates underfloor heating beneath the original stone pavers and features advanced climate systems seamlessly integrated into the walls and furniture. The project’s most distinctive feature is a library with hidden doors leading to private spa zones integrated into a former double-vaulted bread oven. This project is a tribute to the fusion of traditional craftsmanship, complex restoration, and refined interior design – reviving a space that honors its past, serves the present, and is preserved for the future.
