On the outskirts of Wiesbaden-Frauenstein, the new St. Georg Kindergarten marks the landscape with three dark pyramids. Completed in 2025, the two-story building accommodates up to 80 children in four groups, offering diverse spatial, play, and nature experiences.

Clad in dark timber, it consists of three volumes, topped with PV-equipped pyramid roofs. The sloping site defines the concept: the ground floor is set into the hill, while a central foyer connects crèche, multipurpose room, and administration. Upstairs, three group rooms beneath lofty roofs are lit by skylights and open to the play garden through large, glazed façades. Suspended play levels, bright interiors, and a continuous canopy create varied learning and play spaces indoors and outdoors. The garden combines classic equipment with natural elements.

Meeting the KfW Efficiency House 40 standard, the kindergarten integrates heat pumps, photovoltaics, and rainwater use – sustainable, functional, and identity-shaping.
