The key idea of this program is to regulate outside eating and cooperate with authorities for safe return of gastro businesses back to life. The graphic design of safe zones and spacing grid prevent virus spreading. Currently empty public spaces transform into spaces with clearly defined safe zones spread across city squares in a strictly defined grid. People can eat their food without a face mask on inside the safe zone. Outside the zone wearing mask is required.

Social distancing is a very effective way to fight a pandemic. Unfortunately, it has very negative effects on the economy and especially on the gastronomy. The key idea of this program is to regulate outside eating and cooperate with authorities for safe return of gastro businesses back to life. The graphic design of safe zones and spacing grid of them aim at considerate behaviour among people and preventing virus spreading.

Currently empty public spaces can transform into spaces with clearly defined safe zones spread across city squares in a strictly defined grid. Those are distanced from each other according to criteria given by the authorities. Every one safe zone is equipped with one dining set. The dining set has 3 seats around a round table, it is designed as a one-piece construction, it is non-movable, stabile, resistant and made out of materials that can be frequently disinfected and cleaned. People take their food to a clearly defined and marked safe zone where they can consume it without a face mask on. Wearing a face mask outside safe zone is strictly required to prevent uncontrolled virus spreading. After coronavirus will pass, the dining sets can serve as a public furniture or they can be used in parks, playgrounds and so on.

Rather than tame a fire we want to plant trees. The “Gastro Safe Zone!” is a long-term project. Epidemy might fade away, but nowhere is written it won´t strike again. If we are able to answer some questions today, we won´t have to ask those questions tomorrow.
