Tom Van Malderen
Malta
Tom Van Malderen is a Malta-based architect whose work explores the intersections of art, design, and architecture. Through his practice, he investigates how we interact with our environments and the cultural references embedded in their objects and materials. After earning his architecture degree from the College of Science and Art, Sint-Lucas Brussels (now KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture), Tom gained experience working with renowned firms such as Atelier Lucien Kroll in Brussels and AP Valletta in London and Valletta.
In addition to his architectural work, Tom runs his own studio where he further develops his visual art and design practice, collaborating with artists, organizations, manufacturers, and NGOs. His recent projects include a public sculpture for the 2024 Malta Biennale and an exhibition in Tallinn. Currently, he is finalizing exhibition architecture for a large ceramics display, completing a private furniture commission, and preparing to install a mobile photo studio structure for the Biennale Photo Mulhouse.
