The redesign of the communal space for Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG) in Vienna responded to the challenges of a computer-dominated work environment – one that often neglects the need for relaxation, variety, and creativity. Our objective was to introduce a new focal point within the building: a welcoming space that stands in intentional contrast to the typical office setting and offers flexible usability through adaptable furniture.
Drawing inspiration from nature’s green palette, we aimed to cultivate a calming yet invigorating atmosphere. A variety of green tones applied to primarily textile surfaces create a fresh, harmonious environment that encourages relaxation and sparks new inspiration.
Flexible furniture lies at the heart of the concept. With simple adjustments, elements can be reconfigured to meet diverse office needs. Freestanding wooden boxes, paired with concealed functional components, can easily be adapted for intimate meetings, monthly breakfast gatherings, or larger discussions – making the space as dynamic as the people who use it.
