Since 2009 there is a social pedagogical youth residence U-turn in a village near the city of Salzburg, which they were allowed to redesign and modernize. With “u-turn” the organization “Save the Child” refers to a turning point that aims to help young people with very difficult social environments to follow a different, new path. There is room for girls and boys from 13 to 21 years of age. Surrounded by a lot of wood and high-quality materials, the residents now find a new comfortable, and warm environment, which should help them to develop further positively. A new space concept with lots of leisure activities and retreats for residents and carers alike enables a successful coexistence. The sad-looking and fragile old stock was completely renovated, modernized, and now received a new, ecological, appealing, and contemporary appearance with local larch wood in the form of shingles and formwork, slats, as well as functional balconies with architecturally successful fall protection.
