Batteríið Architects
Batteríið Architects Ltd. is a consulting architectural firm founded in 1988, with extensive experience in building design and planning. The company benefits from a highly trained and well-educated team that emphasizes innovative ideas and creative design solutions.
Its expertise lies in seamlessly adapting buildings to the local environment and climate, incorporating universal design principles, and ensuring occupational safety and health. The goal is for every completed project to reflect these aspects, along with the company’s core values and policies.
A key factor in delivering outstanding services is the firm's advanced knowledge and proficiency in applying 3D / BIM tools in design, supported by a strong infrastructure based on the international quality assurance system ISO 9001.
In 1988, Sigurður Einarsson and Jón Ólafur Ólafsson founded Batteríið Architects after winning first place in the design competition for a new office building for the Icelandic Parliament. The firm quickly became a leader in sustainable design, creating environments that enhance quality of life while adapting to local conditions and climate.
Notable projects include the LEED Silver-certified Active Living Centre at the University of Manitoba in Canada, Iceland’s first Nordic Swan Ecolabel-certified residential building, and the widely acclaimed Harpa Concert and Conference Hall in Reykjavík, Iceland.
