La Viarte Winery, Udine

LaViarte winery is located in heart of the wine area of Colli Orientali del Friuli. The project invested the areas dedicated to the reception of guests: in 2017 the renovation of the guestrooms was completed, while in early 2019 a new wing dedicated to the tasting area opened. The main objective was to create a space in direct contact with the surrounding natural environment of the vineyards to offer an experience built around the discovery of the territory through food and wine culture. The big tasting room is a very contemporary space, overlooking the vineyards thanks to a big glass wall and expanding outdoor with an en-plein air space under a gazebo for the summer. The architectural shell is clean and modern, gently contrasting with the warmth of the traditional local materials such as the cobblestone flooring, the oak used for walls and furniture. Functionally the pivot of the room is the big counter in oak that people is gathering around to taste wine and local food delicacies. On the other hand, the main core of the space, visually and ideally, is the fogher, the traditional fireplace of ancient local rural houses, that has been restored.

What makes this project one-of-a-kind?
The most interesting aspect of this project lays in its true and strong connection with the surrounding context of the sweet hills all around. This is a project for a winery among vineyards and dedicated to welcome wine-loving travellers. The whole project, the materials, the details is an homage to the local tradition and culture made contemporary and timeless at the same time.
