Kolonaki Urban Materiality, Loutraki

Kolonaki Bar & Resto is located in the area of ”Kolonaki Loutraki” and more specifically in front of the coastal park and in a visual continuation with the Corinthian Gulf. The area is characterized by buildings of the ’60s & ‘ 70s that radiate the aesthetics and glamor of Loutraki as a resort of that time. The possibility of increasing the area of the restaurant by 30m2 but also the goal of radical renewal of an already successful design and business space, were the reason for renovation. The site was renovated again, by DEZONE Archi +, in 2013 using common facts but a completely different approach in terms of materials.
The composition of the concept and the methodology used by the design team lead to a result of a harmonic combination of many, different materials and application techniques. The aging technique applied in both ‘’main spaces and the auxiliaries’’ with mixed mortars applied freely but also with stencil techniques created the desired uniqueness and gave a vintage atmosphere to the space. Other cladding/covering materials that render the mosaic in two different scales and colors, on floor and wall created an explosion of contrasts that, however, harmonized perfectly with all other elements of the project. Lines, forms, patterns, techniques and materials compose a space with many references to the past but with a direct placement in today and the ultimate goal of the timelessness of tomorrow, a complex concept where the balance results out of many components. In an urban environment surrounded by mountain and sea with references to different decades & styles, the composition of multiple elements is a challenge but its success creates a big smile, the smile of uniqueness.
