CityMaking.101

IMAGINE. EXPLORE. DISCUSS. SHARE.
CityMaking.101 is a participatory card game that turns everyday people into urban co-designers. Through 101 curated urban topics and fictional civic roles, it helps players unpack the layered dynamics of public space – and transform conversation into design.

The game unfolds in three rounds – evaluate, discuss, and negotiate – guiding 4 to 8 players through a live design process. Each round prompts reflection, disagreement, and unexpected alignment. The themed cards cover six core domains of urban life – from material culture to mobility – while the personas introduce new ways of seeing, reacting, and imagining space.

Designed as a modular system, CityMaking.101 blends strategic play with visual storytelling. Its structure invites players to map personal values onto collective visions, using design not to solve problems, but to surface what matters most.

Whether used by municipalities, educators, or community groups, the game expands who gets to participate in urban transformation. By the end of each session, one question always remains: How can a game help us redesign our cities?
