Cay Sevón

Dr. Cay Sevón has been the chief executive officer of the Turku 2011 Foundation since May 2008. She is responsible for the operational management of the foundation and is currently involved in continuing the Capital of Culture 2011 projects and managing the achievements. Prior to this position, she was Director General at the Ministries of Finance and the Interior, responsible for the development and implementation of the government’s local government policy.

The city of Turku in southwestern Finland was the European Capital of Culture in 2011, together with Tallinn, Estonia. All activities in Turku 2011 were based on three main themes: culture and well-being, the creative economy, and strengthening internationality. Design was at the heart of the creative economy and was also included in projects linking culture and well-being.

The Turku 2011 program comprised 167 artistic projects created by more than 20,000 artists, producers, technicians, volunteers, and other participants from a total of 68 countries. They organized 8,000 events for two million visitors.
