The concept for the new BIS library tells of a hybrid space in which to bring culture to life among digital archives, theatre performances, cinema and conferences. A concept going beyond the mere purpose of a library. The project won a public call for tenders issued by the Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Parabiago, in which the ministerial requests were related to the cultural offer and digital tools, while the municipal requests were related to the architectural layout. BIS, Italian acronym for “interactive school library”, is a modern digital library that focuses on reconfigurability in order to offer users a variety of cultural experiences.
The space is composed of an archive for paper and digital preservation, of a permanent consultation space and of laboratory area for study and research. BIS is the project of a flexible space, which also proposes itself as a catalyst of the city plurality that has the will to act as a bridge between generations and cultures.
