Scapelab; Slovenia
Scapelab is an architectural office established in 2001 by Marko Studen, who graduated from the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Architecture and GSAPP, Columbia University, New York. For six years, he served as the director of Europan Slovenia, an international housing competition project, and lectured at both the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana and the University of California. Additionally, he was an editorial board member of Piranesi Magazine and Art.si Magazine, and participated in national and international competition jury committees. He also co-edited European Urbanity: Europan 7 and 8, Austria and Slovenia (Springer Verlag, 2006).
Boris Matić, another key figure at Scapelab, taught at the University of Ljubljana’s School of Architecture, held a position on the Executive Committee of the Slovenian Chamber of Architecture, and contributed to publications such as Hise and Mladina. Alongside Jernej Sipos, who has been with Scapelab for over a decade, they became owners and partners in 2018.
Scapelab has received several accolades, including the Piranesi Prize Honorable Mention for Cufar Square in 2005, the Golden Pen Award for Shared Space Slovenska Street in 2015, and the Plecnik Award for the Technological Center Eles in 2019, among other national and international awards and commendations.
