3 Questions for MgA. Daniel Barták managing director of FORM
Q1: How do you perceive the role of trust and shared vision between designer and manufacturer in creating meaningful design?
I see the role of trust between designer and manufacturer as absolutely crucial. Without mutual openness and respect, it is impossible to create a design that has real meaning and impact.
At the same time, it is important for the designer to have a good understanding of the direction of the company, the intentions of the management and the assignment itself. It is also crucial to understand the technological possibilities of production and respect the company’s business strategy, because these factors give the design real boundaries and meaning.
Only there, where mutual trust is complemented by understanding and respect, can a functional and long-term sustainable design be created.

Q2: Plywood has a strong tradition in Czech design. What inspired you to return to this material and reinterpret it for a contemporary chair?
We have been working with plywood since the beginning of the company. Initially, we mainly produced individual components from plywood – for example, bent armrests – while other parts of the seating furniture were made of metal or upholstered parts.
At that time, we had not yet mastered the production of all-wooden chairs, so it was a logical step and a dream come true for us to master the technology of pressing and shaping beech lamellas.
A key milestone was the year 2018, when we mastered the technology of high-frequency heating and pressing. Since then, we have gradually come up with models that use bent lamelals and plywood.
The new Lamella model represents a natural extension of our product range, which is becoming increasingly distinctive and characteristic for us.
Its uniqueness lies in the fact that we offer chairs and armchairs made of only two parts. Thanks to the use of lamellas, we are able to create exceptionally strong structures without the risk of disintegration, while maintaining high seating ergonomics.
The Lamella chair continues this philosophy – it is made of a minimum number of parts while maintaining strength, elegance, ergonomics and purity of shape.
“Design fundamentally influences how people meet, work and communicate.”
Q3: In your opinion, what is the role of design in shaping how people meet, work, and communicate?
Design fundamentally influences how people meet, work and communicate. A properly designed space supports open interaction, ergonomics and comfort, while educating users to have an aesthetic sense and creating a pleasant and optimistic atmosphere. Well-thought-out design not only creates an aesthetically beautiful environment, but also actively and positively shapes people’s attitudes, supports their creativity, well-being, pleasant encounters and joy.

About Lamella
Lamella is a versatile chair collection that reintroduces the conference chair through refined plywood construction. Two organically shaped shells form an upholstered seat and a supportive outer frame, while milled solid wood armrests add a precise functional detail. The contoured shell offers gentle support for the back and comfortable rest for the arms. With a choice of metal or bentwood bases, Lamella fits offices, meeting rooms, and homes alike, serving as an elegant dining chair or a comfortable armchair.
