Péter Kis
PLANT, Hungary
Hungarian architect Péter Kis is one of the most prominent progressive architects in Southeast Europe. He has received numerous international awards for his work, including the 1998 Piranesi Award, and was shortlisted for the 2009 Mies van der Rohe Award. He is the founder of the PLANT architectural studio, which was initially based in a building for “thick-skinned mammals” inside the Budapest Zoo. Later, the studio moved to a building for “large predators.” According to some, this sequence reflects the usual development of an architect’s career. In 2010, he completed the Bazaltbor/Laposa wine cellar, which has received numerous international awards. Two years later, he created a new wine cellar, Gróf Buttler Winery, and last year he won the competition for the Tokaj wine cellar. His wine cellars are firmly rooted in local tradition and the cultural landscape.
His subtle approach to stone and detail creates inspiring poetic stories.
