Atelier Stěpán, Czech Republic

Atelier Stěpán is an author’s studio dealing with architecture, public space and art. It was founded in 1997 by the couple Vanda and Marek Štěpán. They create modern architecture that grows from conservative roots. In architectural and urban themes, they work with light, inner truth and develop the archetypal concept of architecture. The studio is firmly anchored in the Moravian-Austrian region. It is known for its designs of sacral buildings, new buildings and reconstructions, and increasingly designs other civil and residential buildings. The studio’s most famous sacral buildings include the elliptical Church of the Holy Spirit in Ostrava-Zábřeh (2007), the circular churches of St. Wenceslas in Sazovice (2017) and the Blessed Mary Restituta in Brno na Lesná (2020). Atelier Štěpán is the recipient of numerous domestic and international awards.

Marek Štěpán was an advisor to the Chancellor of the President of the Republic, vice-dean of the Faculty of Architecture at BUT, and has been the head of the Laboratory of Sacred Space at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUT in Brno since 2016.
