Sauerbruch Hutton is an international architecture, urbanism, and design studio. The practice was founded in 1989 in Berlin by Matthias Sauerbruch and Louisa Hutton, and is led by partners Matthias Sauerbruch, Louisa Hutton, and Juan Lucas Young. The architects at Sauerbruch Hutton are committed to sustainable design. Their integral approach to architecture seeks to unite ecological awareness with intuition and sensuousness. Their award-winning projects include the GSW Headquarters in Berlin, the Brandhorst Museum in Munich, and the Federal Environment Agency building in Dessau—each considered a milestone in sustainable architecture. The Berlin office consists of 90 employees, and they are currently engaged in numerous projects across Europe, including the new headquarters for Médecins Sans Frontières in Geneva.
Their work has received numerous awards, including the Erich Schelling Prize for Architecture (1998), the Fritz Schumacher Prize for Architecture (2003), the Premio de Honor Internacional de Castilla y León (2010), and the Gottfried Semper Prize (2013). They received the Deutscher Architekturpreis in 2015 for the Immanuel Church in Cologne.
