Jelena Matić is a regarded educator, curator, and mentor who has been shaping generations of young designers in the Balkans for over two decades.
A DAAD scholar and alumna of the University of Art and Design Halle (Burg Giebichenstein) in Germany, she is widely recognized for advancing design education through a strong focus on sustainability, innovation, and industry collaboration. Her commitment to circular economy principles and the transformative role of design has inspired a new generation of environmentally conscious creatives.
As a professor at the University of Belgrade, she actively supports student work beyond the classroom – curating exhibitions, leading workshops, enabling participation in major international design events, and building bridges with manufacturers. Through her integration of creative and applied learning into academic programs – and initiatives such as Young Balkan Designers, Ghost Project, and NextGen Design – she continues to drive systemic change and champion emerging talent across the region and internationally.
