Jan Šimnovec
Jan Šimnovec is a young architect specializing in sustainable and participatory architecture. He received his education in Slovenia, Germany, and the USA. In Germany, he studied under the mentorship of Pritzker Prize laureate Diébédo Francis Kéré. In the USA, he participated in the PBL Lab program at Stanford University, focusing on the development of sustainable buildings using modern construction technologies and virtual reality design.
He is a co-founder and leader of an architectural team in the Creative Quarter Barutana, where they have created a new public space and a center for creative and cultural activities in the town of Kamnik. He also serves as a mentor in the Urban Academy organized annually by the Prostorož studio in the same quarter.
Additionally, he works as an independent architect with several realized personal projects. His latest project is the renovation of a 350-year-old homestead called “Novi trg,” which stands as a prominent personal contribution to sustainable thinking in the built environment.
