Neuvermoebelt, Austria
Neuvermoebelt is a Vienna-based design studio that produces its own furniture. Founded by designers Manuela Freigang and Christian Bachmann, the company is a consistent counterpoint to the short-lived furniture industry. At the heart of the company’s philosophy is the belief that good design is not just about shaping forms; it also carries responsibility towards the environment, resources and future generations. An essential part of their creative process involves designing digitally and translating ideas directly into prototypes in their Vienna workshop. This close connection to materials and craftsmanship ensures the highest quality and enables them to respond flexibly to individual design concepts. “If we give up craft, we give up human action itself. Our task is to maintain control over the machine, not the other way around. Today, more than artificial intelligence, we need emotional intelligence.” (Faye Toogood). Together with their experienced team of carpenters, the duo develops modular systems that emphasise adaptability and transformation. Furniture is conceived not as static objects, but as living companions that can grow, move or be rearranged instead of being thrown away. Neuvermoebelt’s designs embody clarity, functionality and environmental awareness. Repairability, recyclability and flexible use are firmly anchored in the studio’s DNA. With its established rental system, Neuvermoebelt demonstrates that furniture can be used in a circular way, not just purchased. Thus, the circular economy is not just a buzzword, but a real practice. By combining design quality, craftsmanship and strong values, Neuvermoebelt creates furniture that transcends functionality, shaping spaces, encouraging reflection and embodying a responsible, forward-looking lifestyle. The designer duo seeks to inspire people to rethink furniture as durable and meaningful companions within a closed cycle, rather than disposable products.
