GROUPWORK, United Kingdom

Amin Taha is the founder and director of Groupwork. Born in Berlin, he has lived in the United Kingdom since 1974. He studied at the University of Edinburgh. Before founding his own practice, Amin Taha Architects, he worked at offices such as Andris Bersins & Associates, Rick Mather Architects, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, and Zaha Hadid Architects. In addition to directing Groupwork and leading projects, he also teaches, lectures, and writes about architecture. In 2003, he founded Amin Taha Architects Ltd, which later evolved into Groupwork.

Groupwork is a collective of talented architects delivering high-quality, well-designed, and meticulously detailed projects. The practice is organised as an Employee Ownership Trust, where each employee holds a share in the company. Amin Taha is the chairman of the Groupwork trust, with Dominic Kacinskas and Alex Coterrill serving as trustees. For individual projects, architects collaborate with a range of specialists, from structural and sustainability engineers to urban designers, landscape architects, and designers. Groupwork’s work spans single- and multi-residential buildings, commercial buildings, arts centres, urban planning projects, infrastructure projects, bridges, and subway stations, along with extensive experience in historic building renovations. For complex architectural challenges, they employ intelligent and innovative approaches.

The first project designed under the Groupwork banner, Barretts Grove, received both regional and national RIBA awards and was nominated for the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2017. The practice was twice nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award in 2019.
