Located on Italy’s Adriatic coast, the Weightless Bridge pays tribute to Cesenatico’s maritime heritage, seamlessly blending tradition with modernity. Drawing inspiration from historical trabocchi, Art Nouveau beach structures, and mid-20th-century maritime architecture, the design reinterprets these elements through contemporary engineering, while honoring the city’s cultural memory.
Rebuilt on its original foundations, the bridge maintains its iconic three-span layout by reusing the existing piers and abutments. The old concrete deck was replaced with Corten steel – chosen for its durability and corrosion resistance – which significantly reduces the structure’s weight while preserving its strength. Transparent parapets, reminiscent of fishing nets, and the bridge’s open structure ensure uninterrupted visual connections between the city and the sea.
Sustainability is central to the project. Corten and stainless steel guarantee long-term performance with minimal maintenance, while Accoya wood brings the warmth and texture of traditional footbridges. Balancing historical reference and technical innovation, the Weightless Bridge is more than just infrastructure – it is a symbol of craftsmanship and community, reinforcing Cesenatico’s deep-rooted connection to its maritime identity and future.
