About Vučedol Culture Museum

Vučedol Culture Museum is the national museum of special interest for the Republic of Croatia and the official leader of systematic archaeological research of the eponymous Vučedol site since 2014.

Vučedol Culture Museum is situated at the foot of Vinograd Streim plateau, a multi-layer settlement that existed, more or less intensively, from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages, seeing its most intense period in the Eneolithic between 4,000 and 3,000 BC.

The works on the permanent exhibition of the Vučedol Culture Museum started in the summer of 2014, and the Museum was opened to the public on 30 June 2015. The accomplishments of the Vučedol culture are presented in nineteen rooms with an exhibition surface area of 1200 m². The concept of the permanent exhibition introduces the visitors to the life in the Vučedol culture that expanded from its original territory (area between Danube, Sava, and Drava) to the territory of present-day twelve European countries and it interprets the findings that represent a highly developed civilization. The permanent exhibition covers the following topics: the geographic position of Vučedol, name of the culture, the earliest Indo-Europeans, herding, agriculture, hunting and fishing, settlement, housing, clothing and weaving, crafts and footwear, metallurgy, ceramics, horizon, calendar, graves, Vučedolac, religion, Vučedol culture and the rest of the world, and the development of the museum.
New Museum buildings were designed by Radionica Architecture Architectural Studio, led by the architect Goran Rako. The author of the museum exhibition is architect Vanja Ilić. The authors of the museum concept are Ružica Marić, professor of archaeology, and professor Aleksandar Durman, PhD. The authors of the permanent exhibition are Aleksandar Durman and Mirela Hutinec, an archaeologist.

Since the first excavations, and throughout the 20th century, the Vučedol area has been of special interest to the scientific community and continuously researched. The crown achievement of these systematic explorations is embodied in the new Vučedol museum.

Vučedol Culture Museum is an award-winning museum with many domestic and international awards mostly in the field of tourism, architecture, and museology.

With its impressive look in its 8 years of existence, it has hosted many international and domestic exhibitions while being visited by over 800,000 satisfied visitors.
