Shaping the Future of World Expos: SEE Countries Beyond Osaka 2025

Twenty-one South-East European (SEE) countries will showcase their visions and innovations at Expo 2025 Osaka, continuing a tradition of participation in the world’s leading international exhibitions.

This year, however, BIG SEE takes on a new role—not merely as an observer but as a facilitator of regional dialogue and progress. By reflecting on individual countries' contributions and experiences in Osaka, our aim is to identify ways to enhance their visibility, impact, and collaboration at future global Expos.

In the months prior and following the opening of Osaka EXPO ( April 13)  BIG SEE media will publish a series of articles and interviews by Slovenian architect Jure Kotnik, released biweekly starting in January. These reflections will showcase the innovative projects, architectural designs, and broader ideas presented in Osaka, all inspired by the Expo’s theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”

BIG SEE Debate at BIG Architecture 2025 (May 23) in Portorož will bring together SEE countries’ national commissioners, architects, and urban design experts for a forward-looking roundtable. Together, we will ask: What is the future of World Expos, and how can South-East European (SEE) countries collaborate more effectively to achieve greater visibility, influence, and shared success?
