The new owners of a well-known space in the heart of Ljubljana, recognized for its spatial, culinary, and social identity, wanted to transform it into a modern hospitality venue with minimal investment and changes to the existing state (no structural work, retaining the layout, and possibly even the furniture). The architects responded to this specific challenge by dressing each of the restaurant’s three sections in a monochromatic scheme with a chosen color. They treated both the historical elements of the interior (such as the distinctive entrance handle, stone flooring, and window frames) and the space’s technical installations (such as vents and pipes) with equal care. Thoughtful lighting was used to create three distinct atmospheres that operate differently by day and night, establishing a playful social space within a historical context.
