InBOX capsule hotel, St. Petersburg, Russia, 2016

The InBox capsule hotel designed by Da architects in St. Petersburg is based on famous Japanese typology of capsule hotels. Sleeping boxes with simple plywood cladding are stacked one on top of the other, not wider than the size of the mattress but complete equipped with high tech equipment, offer cosiness and privacy. The design of other common areas in the intertwinement of exposed black and white painted bricks and carefully manufactured wooden furniture, creates contemporary cosmopolitan look.

KIDO Sushi- bar, St. Petersburg, 2016

In the design for a Sushi Bar Kido Da architecs managed to surpass the usual patterns of direct references in designing an oriental restaurant. Instead, an impressive wooden construction was created, consisting of more than 400 volumetric triangles. Moving from the wall to the ceiling resembling a wave, it envelops the entire main hall of the restaurant and creates a “shell” of the space. Elegant dark background of the space allows for the origami like structure to take the main stage.

Birch restaurant, St Peterburg, Russia, 2018

The interior is built on a laconic combination of two basic materials: light wood, reminiscent of birch, and stainless steel, referring to the aesthetics of a restaurant kitchen counters. The grey plaster surfaces of the walls serve as background emphasizing basic materials. In the main hall the serenity of space is achieved with ingenious application of vertical wooden cylindrical rods as screens. In the smaller room the fine texture of seven thousand individual wooden cylinders mounted on the wall as a panel offers a delicate contrast to industrial look of the stainless steel kitchen counter.
