Inspiration: Dutch still life paintings from the 17th century and their symbolism. The vanitas-symbols of these paintings refer to the meaninglessness and transience of our lives. Such symbols for example are skulls, clocks, books, sand glasses, candles, flowers, fruits, and little insects. These are the symbols of fertility, the richness of life, but also of decay and death.
